Artwork
Haven’t had time to write a post lately…Old School has been busy, busy, busy. We had a great show at the Colorado Black Arts Festival last month and I am the featured artist of the month at the Rodeo Market Community Arts Center in Westminster, CO this month.
The show is entitled “Whispering a Scream” and features paintings of the Americans Rockwell forgot. My artist’s reception is August 26 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Rodeo Market – 3619 W. 73rd Avenue Westminster, CO. The public is invited.
I will also start acrylic painting classes once again in September, so check back for dates, times and places.

Dancing Americans
Back in the day we thought Archie Bunker was funny. His racist ideas were so out of touch that they were laughable.
Sadly, I think we have gone back to acceptance of divisiveness in America.
This art piece got so much negative feedback at a recent art show that I was shocked. I even had one guy DEMAND an explanation from me about it. The explanation is simple – Americans come in all ages, races, ethnic backgrounds and religions and I for one think it is a GREAT thing when we can all come together and smile, dance and enjoy one another’s company.
E. Pluribus Unim – from many, one — a founding idea of our great land and one I firmly stand behind without apology.
It’s Show Time
It’s art show season.
My next show will be the ART OF THE RIDE at Rodeo Market Art Gallery sculpture garden June 10, 2017 73rd and Lowell in Westminster, Colorado.
Please stop by and show some love.

Jerry Lewis had a Muscular Distrophy telethon every summer and encouraged kids to have a summer carnival in order to raise money for the cause.
Every year right after school ended, the neighborhood kids got together to plan the annual carnival. The planning included lots of arguments and sometimes divided the neighborhood into two factions ending in two separate carnivals, but sometime in August, we would pull it off. Continue reading
Next Time Kid’s Meal
I stopped at a fast food restaurant the other day and ordered one of those low-priced combo meals for $5.
Back in the day, a $5 meal would hold you over until you could get home for a real dinner. We are no longer back in the day.
The menu was innocent enough, a cheeseburger, small fries and a small drink, just enough to hold me over for dinner in a few hours. All for about $5.
When my order was ready, the teenager handed me a bag large enough to hold a week’s worth of groceries. Continue reading

Harlem
Sometimes a poem inspires me to illustrate it. This is one of my favorite poems and the painting that it inspired:
Harlem
by Langston Hughes
What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun? Or fester like a sore- And then run? Does it stink like rotten meat Or crust and sugar over - Like a syrupy sweet Maybe it just sags Like a heavy load. Or does it explode?
Prize Fighting
I never got cereal prizes because I had a great mother and 3 siblings.
My mother was concerned about our nutrition, so she never bought pre-sweetened cereal – the good stuff with the prize. Instead we were treated to Shredded Wheat and Special K – they never had prizes. Plus – having 3 siblings, there would be no way we would share the prizes without a fair degree of bloodshed. Continue reading
